The rural architecture of Quercy, very rich and diverse, is the expression of one of the most imaginative rural cultures. It presents constructions in a wide variety of shapes and sizes with many local interpretations, also reflecting the diversity of materials (limestone, sandstone, flat or channelled tiles, slates of shale or limestone ...) that influences neighboring regions. This interest is reinforced by a wealth of very distinctive architectural elements: "pigeonniers", "bolets", combined in infinite variations ... This is shown by the many small iconic contructions typical of the landscapes of the Lot : "cazelles and gariottes" dovecotes, mills, and of course, "lavoirs". |
